The
most prosaic objects reveal themselves to be intricate and interesting.
Seeing requires looking beyond what we think we know and noticing
what we ignore. Nuances of color reveal themselves as the light
falls or is blocked. Shadows are transparent and colorful. Herein
lies the conundrum of painting: the attempt to translate space,
form, light, color and texture with paint on a two-dimensional
surface.
I was born in Indianapolis, IN in 1954. I attended San Francisco
State University from 1976 through 1980 and graduated with a
degree in painting and printmaking (lithography). I moved to
Santa Barbara to pursue my MFA at UCSB, which I completed in
1982. I received an Art Affiliates Award in my first year.
I
live and work on Santa Barbara's West side in my newly remodeled
Blue Tower Studio.
